In 1972, Francis Coppola helped author, Mario Puzo, put his 1969 novel The Godfather to screen. After becoming a best-seller on paper, the two had no choice but to put it in live-action. Starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, the film followed the mafia family, the Corleones.

The film would go on to be considered one of the best ever made. Not only did it become the top-grossing film of its year, but the film went on to receive 10 Oscar nominations, winning Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, and the biggest award of the night, Best Picture.
