About This Quiz
Think you know every book in the Bible? Prove it by acing this quiz.
There are between 66 and 81 books in the Bible, depending on which version you use. In the King James Version, the version used by over half of all Christians in the United States, there are a total of 80 books: the 39 books of the Old Testament, the 14 books of the Apocrypha and the 27 books of the New Testament.
The King James Version of the Bible is the English translation that began in 1604 and was completed in 1611. This huge project was undertaken during the reign of England's King James I (he was known as King James VI in Scotland), but it was not the only version to have been translated in England. In fact, the first translation of the Bible in England was commissioned by King Henry VIII in 1535. Forty-seven scholars worked on the translation, which took eight years. You may not know that the books of the Bible are not translated from the same source. In fact, the books of the Old Testament are translated from Hebrew and Aramaic, the books of the Apocrypha are translated from Greek and Latin, and the books of the New Testament are translated from Greek.
