In English folklore, Boggarts (which have also been called the Bogeyman) are said to be mischievous or malevolent spirits capable of inhabiting household items or topographical features and can either cause trouble or even evil deeds. In the world of Harry Potter, a boggart is a type of shapeshifter which on its own, has no particular form, but when encountered by someone, transforms into that person's worst fears. 

Usually found in dark and confined spaces, they have similar abilities to the form that they take. For instance, if a Boggart takes the form of a Dementor, it will have similar but weaker magic than a real one. To repel the creature, it must be laughed at, or the spell Riddikulus must be cast to transform the once scary creature into something that the viewer finds amusing. 

Everyone on this earth has at least one fear and while it may be funny to others, it often sends you hiding in a corner with your eyes glued shut.
